Rengasdengklok event was the incident during the kidnapping of Soekarno and Hatta which was carried out by Soekarni,Wikana,and Chaerul Shaleh. This event occured on August 16, 1945 at 03.00 WIB. At that time the youth group urged that the proclamation of independen be accelerated. Facing this insistence, Soekarno and Hatta remained unchaged. But what was planned by Chaerul Shaleh and his friends was unsuccessful, because not all PETA members supported the plan.
The proclamation of independence of the Republic of Indonesia is planned to be read by Soekarno and Hatta on Friday, August 17- 1945 in the field of IKADA (now a monas field) or in Bung Karno house JL. Pegangsaan Timur No.56. Because the japanese army soldiers guarding the IKADA field made the text of the proclamation carried out at the house of Soekarno. The text of the proclamation was compiled by Djiaw Kie Siong a Chinese. The text day on the 17th of august 1945 the proclamation statement was echoed with the text typed by Sayuti Melik using a typewriter borrowed from yhe head office of the German naval representative, major(sea) Dr. Hermann Kan
