The Biggest Drum In The World
The drum used as a sign of prayer time is in the Darul muttaqien mosque,Purworejo square. This drum is the work of muslims who were ordered by Adipati Cokronagoro I, the first regent of Purworejo who is know to be very caring
In the beginning,Cokronagoro I really wanted to have a magnificent mosque building in the middle of the city. Then on the west side of the square,Darul Muttaqien mosque was established on Sunday, the 2nd of the month of Alip 1762 Java. To build this mosque cokronagoro I did not want to be. He chose experts to get the best wood. Material to make the main pillar of this mosque come from teak wood which has 5 fruit branches and 200cm diameter. On an area of 8.825 m2 this mosque can stand majestically in downtown Purworejo.
Raden Patih Cokronagoro along with Raden Tumenggung Prawironagoro,who is also the younger brother of Cokronagoro,became the task of making the big drum. The area of the teak tree is pendowo Hamlet,Bragolan village,Purwodadi District.
It is said that this teak tree is considered asacred tree that cannot be cut down. Kya Irsyad,a cleric from Loano,was summoned by Mbah Junus and succeeded in cutting down the tree. The size of the drum: 292cm long,around the front of the rear that is 601cm and 564cm,then the front diameter of the book is 194cm and 180cm which is made from the skin of the bull. In 1837,this drum was completed and placed inside the great mosque.
